CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

John 3: 1-21

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

4 Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”

5 Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear the sound of it, but cannot tell where it comes from and where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

9 Nicodemus answered and said to Him, “How can these things be?”

10 Jesus answered and said to him, “Are you the teacher of Israel, and do not know these things? 11 Most assuredly, I say to you, We speak what We know and testify what We have seen, and you do not receive Our witness. 12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should [c]not perish but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For everyone practicing evil hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. 21 But he who does the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be clearly seen, that they have been done in God.”   John 3   NKJV

SERMON:

You Must Be Born Again!

*Only some men will ask the right questions while others go about completely oblivious simply because they do not care to know.
*Spiritual things must be spiritually discerned.
*Further up and further into the great mystery of God.
*He is an amazing God and the more we get to know Him, the more we realize just how small our vision and understanding is.
*An article written by Ed Stetzer. ‘We must live up to our calling as evangelicals: to proclaim Jesus Christ to the world, rather than betray Him to sustain worldly power.’
*Our trust must be in God alone and not in any other person.

5 Thus says the Lord:

“Cursed is the man who trusts in man

And makes flesh his strength,

Whose heart departs from the Lord.

6 For he shall be like a shrub in the desert,

And shall not see when good comes,

But shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness,

In a salt land which is not inhabited.

7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

And whose hope is the Lord.

8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

Which spreads out its roots by the river,

And will not fear when heat comes;

But its leaf will be green,

And will not be anxious in the year of drought,

Nor will cease from yielding fruit.  Jeremiah 17: 5-8

*9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,

And desperately wicked;

Who can know it?

10 I, the Lord, search the heart,

I test the mind,

Even to give every man according to his ways,

According to the fruit of his doings.  Jeremiah 17: 9, 10   NKJV

*We must recognize our hope, our faith and trust in Christ alone and not even in our own wisdom and understanding.  For even our own hearts will mislead us.
*Nicodemus comes by night to learn what Jesus says in John 3:

3 Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”

*Jesus is telling him that to understand what the kingdom of God is about, you have to change, to become a new man.

*Spiritual things must be spiritually discerned.  That is the only way we understand!
*Do you hear it?  Do you hear when the Spirit of God speaks to you?
*We are not OK the way we are!  If you are not willing to be changed by God, then you can never be a Christian.  We have to change.  We have to be born again by the Spirit of God!
*Being ‘Born again’ literally implies that as Christians, we become heavenly minded and earthly good.  The Holy Spirit begins to move in us to do His will.
*There is no higher calling in any of our lives than to beckon people to follow Christ for their eternal salvation.
*Consider the words of Jesus to Nicodemus:

12 If I have told you earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you heavenly things? 13 No one has ascended to heaven but He who came down from heaven, that is, the Son of Man who is in heaven. 14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.

Like Moses, when he lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, those who looked on that serpent

7 Therefore the people came to Moses, and said, “We have sinned, for we have spoken against the Lord and against you; pray to the Lord that He take away the serpents from us.” So Moses prayed for the people.  8 Then the Lord said to Moses, “Make a fiery serpent, and set it on a pole; and it shall be that everyone who is bitten, when he looks at it, shall live.” 9 So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.

Numbers 21: 9   NKJV

*God is a God of salvation and life, but we must live our lives as He commands.  The people before Moses HAD to look on the serpent to live.  If they didn’t, they would certainly perish.

*We who live under Christ must believe in Jesus Christ and be changed, become heavenly minded by the power of His Holy Spirit or we shall certainly perish.

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.

*You must be born again!  You must be born of the Spirit of God!  God wants to do a great work in your life, He wants to rebirth you to become the man or woman of God that He will change!  But that can only be done in the power and the Spirit of God in you!  Set your life and eyes on the heavenly things!
*This is a time for our faith to become real!  Trust Him.  Hear Him!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

1 Peter 1  NKJV

10 Of this salvation the prophets have inquired and searched carefully, who prophesied of the grace that would come to you, 11 searching what, or what manner of time, the Spirit of Christ who was in them was indicating when He testified beforehand the sufferings of Christ and the glories that would follow. 12 To them it was revealed that, not to themselves, but to us they were ministering the things which now have been reported to you through those who have preached the gospel to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven—things which angels desire to look into. 13 Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;

1 Peter 1: 10-13  NKJV

SERMON:

WHERE ANGELS LONG TO LOOK!

*This world is NOT our home!
*We only have a few score years on this earth and we are gone.  No guarantees!  No magic potion which promises us long life on this earth.
*Did you know that we as believers in Jesus Christ possess something that even angels desire to know?
*Peter writes about prophets and prophecies which should remind us of the timeless nature of God’s truths and His moving on behalf of mankind.
Peter writes of the glories, and the revelations of these moves of God and of Jesus Christ Himself.
*Things done in eternity apart from space and time.  And the angels desire to look into these things.
*There are two gifts from God from the passage in 1st Peter that Angels desire to know of:
*The first is Grace: Grace is getting what you don’t deserve at all.
*The second is how God views us: God views us as His children.  We inherit a place in God's Kingdom and at His table.  Position and belonging.
*All of mankind is given to seeking our own pleasures and ways instead of Gods.

“The heart is deceitful above all things,

And desperately wicked;

Who can know it?  Jeremiah 17: 9   NKJV

Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and

that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  Genesis 6: 5. 6

*The Bible and it's truths, God's Word, is entirely relevant to us today simply because in it is a love letter from God to all mankind who lives in sin.
*It is the Holy Spirit of God who works these things out in our lives as He daily points us back to Jesus Christ.

20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, 21 keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.   Jude 1   NKJV

*The angels are but ministering spirits.  You and I are children of God, inheritors of His kingdom, ambassadors in this world.

*This is a time for our faith to become real!  Trust Him.  Hear Him!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Matthew 16: 13-19  |  Mark 8: 27-30  |  Luke 9: 18-21  NKJV

When Jesus came into the region of Caesarea Philippi, He asked His disciples, saying, “Who do men say that I, the Son of Man, am?”  14 So they said, “Some say John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.”  15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”  16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  17 Jesus answered and said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. 18 And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. 19 And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed[d] in heaven.”  Matthew 16: 13-19 NKJV

27 Now Jesus and His disciples went out to the towns of Caesarea Philippi; and on the road He asked His disciples, saying to them, “Who do men say that I am?”  28 So they answered, “John the Baptist; but some say, Elijah; and others, one of the prophets.”  29 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”  Peter answered and said to Him, “You are the Christ.”  30 Then He strictly warned them that they should tell no one about Him.  Mark 8: 27-30 NKJV

18 And it happened, as He was alone praying, that His disciples joined Him, and He asked them, saying, “Who do the crowds say that I am?”  19 So they answered and said, “John the Baptist, but some say Elijah; and others say that one of the old prophets has risen again.”  20 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”  Peter answered and said, “The Christ of God.”  21 And He strictly warned and commanded them to tell this to no one, 22 saying, “The Son of Man must suffer many things, and be rejected by the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised the third day.”  Luke 9: 18-21  NKJV

SERMON:

"Who do you say that Jesus Is?"

*In his classic book, "The Knowledge of the Holy," (published in 1961) AW Tozer starts with the first sentence of the preface, "True religion confronts earth with heaven and brings eternity to bear upon time."

*Tozer goes on to begin chapter one with:

*"The mightest thought the mind can entertain is the thought of God, and the weightiest word in any language is its word for God."

*So, "What do you think of when you think of God?"  And most important, "Who do YOU say that Jesus is?"

*Matthew 16: 14 NKJV

*John 14:6  |   John 1:1-5  |  John 17:5  |   John 18:36-37  |  John 6:40

*John 6:47  |  John 11:25

*John 10:17  |  Matthew 25:31-32

*Matthew 3: 16, 17  |  Matthew 17: 1-7  |  John 12: 27-30

*Truth does not begin with you or me.  It begins and ends with Christ Jesus.

*Revelation 1:8

*Truth transforms us, changes us to have an eternal, Godly vision.  And through the power of His Holy Spirit, empowers and directs our lives and footsteps.

*Matthew 7: 21-23

*So what has happened here.  These people had an encounter with Jesus Christ and it completely changed them.  And they told everyone they met who Jesus is!!

*This is a time for our faith to become real!  Trust Him.  Hear Him!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Hebrews 9: 15, 27, 28  |  Hebrews 10: 23-25  |  Hebrews 11: 8-10

15 And for this reason He is the Mediator of the new covenant, by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions under the first covenant, that those who are called may receive the promise of the eternal inheritance.  Hebrews 9: 15   NKJV

27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment, 28 so Christ was offered once to bear the sins of many. To those who eagerly wait for Him He will appear a second time, apart from sin, for salvation.  Hebrews 9: 27, 28   NKJV

23 Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching.  Hebrews 10: 23-25   NKJV

8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going. 9 By faith he dwelt in the land of promise as in a foreign country, dwelling in tents with Isaac and Jacob, the heirs with him of the same promise; 10 for he waited for the city which has foundations, whose builder and maker is God.  Hebrews 11: 8-10   NKJV

SERMON:

2020, Look Up, Our Redemption Draws Nigh!

*25 “And there will be signs in the sun, in the moon, and in the stars; and on the earth distress of nations, with perplexity, the sea and the waves roaring; 26 men’s hearts failing them from fear and the expectation of those things which are coming on the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken. 27 Then they will see the Son of Man coming in a cloud with power and great glory. 28 Now when these things begin to happen, look up and lift up your heads, because your redemption draws near.”  Luke 21: 25-28   NKJV

*24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me,

let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul? 27 For the Son of Man will come in the glory of His Father with His angels, and then He will reward each according to his works.   Matthew 16: 24-27   NKJV

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

John 3: 16-18  |  Luke 1: 26-38  |  Luke 2: 1-20

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that the light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.  John 3: 16-18   NKJV

Now lets read the greatest story ever told!

26 Now in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, 27 to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. 28 And having come in, the angel said to her, “Rejoice, highly favored one, the Lord is with you; blessed are you among women!”  29 But when she saw him, she was troubled at his saying, and considered what manner of greeting this was. 30 Then the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. 32 He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. 33 And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom there will be no end.”

34 Then Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I do not know a man?”  35 And the angel answered and said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Highest will overshadow you; therefore, also, that Holy One who is to be born will be called the Son of God. 36 Now indeed, Elizabeth your relative has also conceived a son in her old age; and this is now the sixth month for her who was called barren. 37 For with God nothing will be impossible.”  38 Then Mary said, “Behold the maidservant of the Lord! Let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.  Luke 1: 26-38   NKJV

And it came to pass in those days that a decree went out from Caesar

Augustus that all the world should be registered. 2 This census first took place while Quirinius was governing Syria. 3 So all went to be registered, everyone to his own city.  4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, 5 to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. 6 So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn.  8 Now there were in the same country shepherds living out in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And [c]behold, an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were greatly afraid. 10 Then the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. 11 For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger.”

13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying:

14 “Glory to God in the highest,

And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”

15 So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds. 19 But Mary kept all these things and pondered them in her heart. 20 Then the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told them.
