CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 28: 19-20  |  Acts 1: 4-8  |  Acts 2: 1-4
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

4 And being assembled together with them, He commanded them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me; 5 for John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit not many days from now.” 6 Therefore, when they had come together, they asked Him, saying, “Lord, will You at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 And He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons which the Father has put in His own authority. 8 But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

2 When the Day of Pentecost had fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. 2 And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. 4 And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

SERMON:
He Is With Us!
Today is Pentecost Sunday, The day God filled His church with His Holy Spirit!
Jesus is with us!
Choices we make determine the outcome of our lives.
A huge task that requires a great vision, and one that no one man,
or even group of men can accomplish.  It is too big!
God sent His people out into the world, but first, He gave them Himself and all the power and grace and they would need to carry His message.

‘God plus one is a majority!!’

You think you don’t have the resources, the people, the energy, the
vision to do something the Lord is leading you to do, remember,
‘God plus one is a majority!!’  You have all you need!
At Pentecost, we have to look beyond the wind and the tongues of fire.
Jesus was there just as He promised!  “…and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”  Matthew 28: 20   NKJV
There was no longer a need for a temple, for the power and the
authority of God Himself now lived in those disciples just as He does in us today!
We are responsible for this generation in the world!
Romans 8: 28:   28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
John 4: 36-38    36 And he who reaps receives wages, and
gathers fruit for eternal life, that both he who sows and he who reaps may rejoice together. 37 For in this the saying is true: ‘One sows and another reaps.’ 38 I sent you to reap that for which you have not labored; others have labored, and you have entered into their labors.”
Matthew 25, the Parable of the Talents, the unprofitable servant did not multiply his Lord's land but buried it away.
Matthew 25: 30    30 And cast the unprofitable servant into the
outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’
John Piper ends that story with a rhyme worth remembering:
Only one life, twill soon be passed,

Only what is done for Christ will last!
Knowledge and reason are good, but the Gospel must be lived out, it must have living application in our lives!  The cornerstone of Christian discipleship is spending our lives reaching others with the Good News of Jesus Christ!
What does a man or a woman of God look like?  They are a disciple of Jesus who has allowed Jesus to marry their head and their heart in their lives, and they go out and shine the light of Jesus everywhere they go.
Every generation is responsible for their generation to reach them with the Gospel of Jesus!
The Baton is being passed to you young people.  Are you going to run the race and win the prize?
John 4: 34     34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of
Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”
For you young people, it means you hunger to be involved, to be
relevant, to make a difference that will truly transform the lives of others.  You can do it as a doctor, or as an engineer, or as an evangelist or missionary.  But do it!!
Make it your life’s call to be a disciple of Jesus and follow Him as He leads you by His Holy Spirit!  God has a great work for you that will have eternal value!

BENEDICTION:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
1st Thessalonians 5: 16-28   NKJV
Lord, make us more like you, to be people who seek to hear from you and to be obedient to your will in our lives.  In Jesus name, Amen!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:       Matthew 5: 1-12   NKJV
5 And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2 Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:
3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4 Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5 Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.
6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7 Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8 Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9 Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12 Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

SERMON:
RED LETTER WORDS OF JESUS THAT CHANGED MY LIFE,

The Cost!
There is a cost to everything in life.  There is a cost to walking out our faith in Jesus Christ.
Matthew 5: 11  “11 Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake.”
John 15: 18, 19   18 “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you. 19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.”
Matthew 24: 45, 46   45 “Who then is a faithful and wise servant, whom his master made ruler over his household, to give them food in due season? 46 Blessed is that servant whom his master, when he comes, will find so doing.”
Watchman Nee, God used him to greatly expand Christianity all across China.  When Chairman Mao came to power in 1949, Watchman Nee was imprisoned for a more than 20 years, through tortures and deprivation.   He used his imprisonment and wrote many of his books there.  Through the life and witness of Watchman Nee, hundreds of thousands of people across China came to know Jesus as their Savior.  As a college student, Watchman Nee was also very instrumental in my own life as I too struggled with what faith walked out meant.
Ephesians 6: 12, 13   12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. 13 Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
In his book ‘Sit, Walk, Stand,’ Watchman Nee teaches the importance of our being able to sit at the Master’s feet to learn from Him, to walk it out in our lives, and to stand against the whiles of the devil and temptations.
Matthew 5: 38-42    38 “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ 39 But I tell you not to resist an evil person. But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also. 40 If anyone wants to sue you and take away your tunic, let him have your cloak also. 41 And whoever compels you to go one mile, go with him two. 42 Give to him who asks you, and from him who wants to borrow from you do not turn away.
Matthew 5: 43- 47    43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if you love those who love you, what reward have you? Do not even the tax collectors do the same? 47 And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others? Do not even the tax collectors do so?”
1st Corinthians 16: 13   13 Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. 14 Let all that you do be done with love. John 16:33    33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
As Henry David Thoreau is quoted as saying: “The mass of men live lives of quiet desperation.”  People want something to truly believe in, something that will give their lives greater meaning beyond what can be seen, and felt.
What kind of person do you see in yourself?  What kind of person do you see throughout your life?  Oh, and here is the big question:  ‘Who do you say that Jesus is?’
John 6: 68-69     “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Read the Gospel accounts throughout the week.  Ask yourself, what is Jesus telling me?

BENEDICTION:

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:       Matthew 6: 25-34   NKJV
25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? 27 Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?
28 “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; 29 and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
31 “Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ 32 For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. 33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble.

SERMON:
THESE ARE THE THINGS WE WORRY ABOUT...
Some times, trouble piles on trouble in our lives.
Recent sermons ‘Red Letter Words of Jesus that Changed My Life, the actual words of Jesus are much more penetrating and compelling.
Paul writes in Philippians 4: 4-7   6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
But Jesus says in Matthew 6: 25, 26   25 “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life…   ….Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? 26 Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?
When I read Jesus’s words:  Matthew 25: 40
40 And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’
When the Apostle John writes in 1st John 3: 16-17:
16 By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 17 But whoever has this world’s goods, and sees his brother in need, and shuts up his heart from him, how does the love of God abide in him?
But Jesus speaks to each of us personally in Matthew 28: 19, 20:
19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;”
In Matthew 12: 33-37, Jesus tells us our mouths reveal what is in our hearts:
34 Brood of vipers! How can you, being evil, speak good things? For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. 35 A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things.    ...37 For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”
Do we proclaim the glory of the Lord and our complete trust in Him no matter how bleak our circumstances appear to us.
John 11: 4  ...“This sickness is not unto death, but for the glory of God, that the Son of God may be glorified through it.”
And John 11: 40  “Did I not say to you that if you would believe you would see the glory of God?”
What do we expect out of life if we fear the worst?  Is our desire to see God’s glory in our situation, OR, do we instead cling to the reality that Lazarus is dead, and our situation is just as bleak!  We should be proclaiming God’s glory in all situations!
**When a man’s chief business is to serve and please the Lord, ALL his circumstances become his servants!”   Robert Chapman
“It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy Christian is a powerful instrument in the hand of God.”
Hope and faith and love comes from a deep seated relationship with our Lord, a personal relationship that knows Him and follows every word He uttered and continues to utter to us through the Holy Spirit.
When trouble is all about, when it seems to you that worry is the only course of action, DON’T WORRY!!
Romans 8: 26—28    28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
I personally believe we are living in Biblical times today!
Hear the words of Jesus in Matthew 24:30-31.
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.
Revelation 12: 10, 11   10 Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death.
Revelation 12: 12   12 Therefore rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, because he knows that he has a short time.”
James 1: 22-25     22 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves. 23 For if anyone is a hearer of the word and not a doer, he is like a man observing his natural face in a mirror; 24 for he observes himself, goes away, and immediately forgets what kind of man he was. 25 But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does.
No matter what circumstances you face, set your mind and your hearts on Jesus and His Kingdom!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:       John 14: 1-7; 12-14 & Mark 4: 30-32   NKJV
14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
5 Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.
7 “If you had known Me, you would have known My Father also; and from now on you know Him and have seen Him.”  John 14: 1-7   NKJV

12 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father. 13 And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.  John 14: 12-14   NKJV

30 Then He said, “To what shall we liken the kingdom of God? Or with what parable shall we picture it? 31 It is like a mustard seed which, when it is sown on the ground, is smaller than all the seeds on earth; 32 but when it is sown, it grows up and becomes greater than all herbs, and shoots out large branches, so that the birds of the air may nest under its shade.”  Mark 4: 30-32   NKJV
SERMON:
THE RED LETTER WORDS OF JESUS
THAT CHANGED MY LIFE!  Living a Divine Life!
Matthew 28: 18-20  “All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you;
That is where the red letter words of Jesus will change your life as it did mine!  That is where you begin living a divine life!
It begins with who do you say Jesus is:
Matthew 16: 15, 16  15 He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?”  16 Simon Peter answered and said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
"Who do you say Jesus is?" is revealed to you by the Holy Spirit, not by anything of this world.
Believing in Jesus is ‘Living a Divine Life,’ because there is nothing in this world that will cause you to look to Him, only His Holy Spirit.
Believing in Jesus is about accepting Him for who He says He is.  Believing Jesus is completely about your trusting Him to accomplish His will in your life, trusting Him and His promises to you, trusting Him to direct and guide you in all aspects of your life.  Taking Him fully at His Word!
John 6: 68-69   Peter asks, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Mark 4: 3-9  Parable of the sower.  What kind of soil is your life made of?  Are you the kind that receives the Word of God gladly and your life produces 30, 60, 100 fold?
Mark 4: 19  Do you pay attention to God's word or do the cares of the world choke Him out of your life?
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”
Matthew 9: 36-38  Do you have compassion for the lost; do you pray for laborers to go into the harvest?  Do you pray that you will be used by God to bring in the harvest?
What will you live your life for?  What will you die for?
What are you going to do about it in your own life?
Psalm 119: 11    Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

‘It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy Christian is a powerful vessel in the hand of God.’

BENEDICTION:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
