CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
Hebrews 11: 23-29  |  2 Corinthians 6: 14-18
23 By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden three months by his parents, because they saw he was a beautiful child; and they were not afraid of the king’s command.  24 By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.  27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, lest he who destroyed the firstborn should touch them.  29 By faith they passed through the Red Sea as by dry land, whereas the Egyptians, attempting to do so, were drowned.  Hebrews 11: 23-29   NKJV

14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever? 16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.”
17 Therefore
“Come out from among them
And be separate, says the Lord.
Do not touch what is unclean,
And I will receive you.”
18 “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,

Says the Lord Almighty.”   2 Corinthians 6: 14-18  NKJV
SERMON:
The Paradox!

*Eternal truths that stand in deference to what we see and think, space and time, and what the passing pleasures the world offers…
*Does your life feel like it is a paradox, a statement that is seemingly contradictory, or opposed to common sense, and yet is true?
*How am I to be a child of God, a citizen of heaven when everywhere I look, all that I know is here?!!??
*In Hebrews 11:26, Moses looked to the reward!  It is what we are supposed to do in our own lives, to look to the reward that Jesus has promised us of eternity with Him!
*President Trump, Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi and Senator Chuck Schumer, people who sit in the highest seats of power of our nation cannot radically alter the things going on in this world.
*In Luke 12: 25, 26, Jesus tells us:
25 And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? 26 If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest?
*Why do we entertain ourselves with things of this world.  In Matthew 15: 10-11; 15-20, Jesus says:10 When He had called the multitude to Himself, He said to them, “Hear and understand: 11 Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man.”15 Then Peter answered and said to Him, “Explain this parable to us.”
16 So Jesus said, “Are you also still without understanding? 17 Do you not yet understand that whatever enters the mouth goes into the stomach and is eliminated? 18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man. 19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies. 20 These are the things which defile a man, but to eat with unwashed hands does not defile a man.”
*From Abel to Noah to Abraham to Moses, they faced the harsh realities of this world and by faith, made themselves obedient to God.
Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
3 By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible.  Hebrews 11: 1-3   NKJV
*Hebrews 11: 4 By faith Abel offered to God a more excellent sacrifice…
5 By faith Enoch was taken away so that he did not see death, “and was not found, because God had taken him”; for before he was taken he had this testimony, that he pleased God.
7 By faith Noah, being divinely warned of things not yet seen, moved with godly fear, prepared an ark for the saving of his household,
8 By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to the place which he would receive as an inheritance.
11 By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.
*When we speak of the paradoxes of our lives as believers in Jesus Christ, we live lives that raise us up to glory in the eyes of God!
*Through our obedience to Him, we receive an unimaginably great inheritance and God uses us for equally unimaginable purposes!
* Hebrews 11: 12   NKJV  12 Therefore from one man, and him as good as dead, were born as many as the stars of the sky in multitude—innumerable as the sand which is by the seashore.
*Hebrews 11: NKJV   7 By faith Abraham…   20 By faith Isaac…   21 By faith Jacob…   22 By faith Joseph…
6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
*Hebrews is a New Testament book that strongly proclaims God’s promises and calls those who believe in Jesus to be priests of His salvation!
*Samuel confronted King Saul in 1st Samuel 15 for his disobedience, so we too must be confronted with out own disobedience:
*1st Samuel 15: 22, 23   NKJV
“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.
23 For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft,
And stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry.
Because you have rejected the word of the Lord,
He also has rejected you from being king.”
*When we disobey, we think we know better than God!  Not obeying God is rebelliousness and is the sin of witchcraft.
*REMEMBER: Hebrews 11: 27    By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king; for he endured as seeing Him who is invisible.
*Choices we make everyday in our lives are for the eternal truths of God or the world's ways.
*Joshua 24: 14, 15   NKJV   14 “Now therefore, fear the Lord, serve Him in sincerity and in truth, and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord! 15 And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.
*Again:  Hebrews 11: 24-26   NKJV   24 By faith Moses, when he became of age, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter, 25 choosing rather to suffer affliction with the people of God than to enjoy the passing pleasures of sin, 26 esteeming the reproach of Christ greater riches than the treasures in Egypt; for he looked to the reward.
*This is the choice:  Do I choose the greater riches of Christ, which will bring suffering afflictions and a peace and faithfulness to my life? Or, Do I choose the passing pleasures of sin, which for the moment seem wonderful, but leave an emptiness and overwhelming sense of meaninglessness?
*The choice is up to you!  Choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve!
*Hebrews 12: 1, 2   NKJV   Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.
*Hebrews 11: 1, 2   NKJV   Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. 2 For by it the elders obtained a good testimony.
*As you step out in faith, you will see the substance of God, the miracles of God as He moves in and through you to accomplish great things.  You will literally live in the substance of things hoped for!
*Moses chose God above everything the world offered.
*You have to step out of the boat, like Peter in Matthew 14:
28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”  29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus.  Matthew 14: 28, 29   NKJV
*To obey Christ is the essence of our faith and belief in Him.  We will falter and fail, but God in Christ Jesus is wholly about our strengthening our faith in Him.
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”  31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”  Matthew 14: 30, 31   NKJV
*Jesus is always there to save us, but we have to step out of the boat and trust Him!
*The Paradox we see in our lives disappears when we look to the eternal reward Jesus promises us!

BENEDICTION:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.
1st Thessalonians 5: 16-28   NKJV

Lord, make us more like you, to be people who seek to hear from you and to be obedient to your will in our lives.  In Jesus name, Amen!

SERMON:
Father Heart of God!

*God has adopted you and I into His family.  We once were gentiles, aliens, outcasts, and God our Father has set a place for us at His table for us to eat and be filled.  He welcomes us!  It is His delight to do so!
*Genesis 1:1  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
*What makes God such an awesome Father and creator is that He sat in His heavenly studio and worked with nothing but His own creative powers and love in the beginning!
*We know God by His name ADONAI: Faithful in provision and protection for His own; He who has ownership
*He shows Himself to us from the very beginning as love.  And all of this gives us a picture, an example, of what we should be as fathers.
*We are to train our children and youth to have a vision of eternity!  As believers in Jesus Christ, we are no longer to be consumed with the matters of this world but to be mindful of our present role in Jesus Christ.
*Romans 12: 2   And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
*There is no greater purpose we can have in our lives than to teach and train and encourage people to believing in Jesus.  Especially our youth.
*Ephesians 6   "And you, fathers, do not provoke your children to wrath, but bring them up in the training and admonition of the Lord."
*Eternity is real;  IT IS ALL ABOUT JESUS!
*2nd Kings 20, King Hezekiah lays dying and prays for mercy from God, and God heals him.  But King Hezekiah compromises his kingdom so that his sons and daughters will be taken away into slavery and says:  "Will there not be peace and truth at least in my days?”  King Hezekiah cared not for his own sons and daughters.
*Good fathers must ask God for mercy and guidance for their children!
*God's Word is a living word and has the power to completely change us into the likeness of His Son.  And as fathers, we should love our children and want them to also have a close intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ, to walk as He walked.
*2nd Corinthians 6:18   “I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,
Says the Lord Almighty.”
*it is equally important that young people consider Ephesians 6:  Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right.  “Honor your father and mother,” which is the first commandment with promise:  “that it may be well with you and you may live long on the earth.”
*For us fathers, let us treasure our relationship with our heavenly Father, that our wives and children will see Him in us.
*there will be times when the Lord puts someone in front of you to minister to.  It won't matter how important you are, how busy you are, whether you have the training or resources for the task at hand.  It may even be someone that you will have a very hard time loving.  As believers in Jesus Christ, we have to be willing to lay our own lives down for our families and for others.  And if we are having a difficult time loving this person, the Lord will help us.  Often, all we have to do is to ask Him for the love which we cannot find in ourselves.
*Obey the Lord despite whatever it may cost you personally.  The Lord wants to teach you something and do a new work in your life as you serve this one He put in front of you.
*It is how faith is made strong in our lives, whether we are a father, or not!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
Isaiah 42: 1-9   NKJV
“Behold! My Servant whom I uphold,
My Elect One in whom My soul delights!
I have put My Spirit upon Him;
He will bring forth justice to the Gentiles.
2 He will not cry out, nor raise His voice,
Nor cause His voice to be heard in the street.
3 A bruised reed He will not break,
And smoking flax He will not quench;
He will bring forth justice for truth.
4 He will not fail nor be discouraged,
Till He has established justice in the earth;
And the coastlands shall wait for His law.”
5 Thus says God the Lord,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk on it:
6 “I, the Lord, have called You in righteousness,
And will hold Your hand;
I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people,
As a light to the Gentiles,
7 To open blind eyes,
To bring out prisoners from the prison,
Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.
8 I am the Lord, that is My name;
And My glory I will not give to another,
Nor My praise to carved images.
9 Behold, the former things have come to pass,
And new things I declare;
Before they spring forth I tell you of them.”

SERMON:
RESTORE!

*God is declaring the work of His Son to His people.
*Rage and bitterness are the hallmarks of these recent protests.  In this world, there will be no justice.  Justice is only going to be found in Jesus!!
*Isaiah 42:22   But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, “Restore!”
*Godly men and women who work in positions of authority rule with the desire to serve God and serve others, to prosper others.  Everyone is blessed because those leaders first authority is to hear from God!  Ungodly men and women seek their own platforms for power to rule and for their own glory.  And the results?  People are robbed and plundered!
*Isaiah 42: 5 NKJV   5 Thus says God the Lord,
Who created the heavens and stretched them out,
Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it,
Who gives breath to the people on it,
And spirit to those who walk on it:
*There is only one place we will find truth and wisdom, and that is from God Himself!!
*Mark 2: NKJV   15 Now it happened, as He was dining in Levi’s house, that many tax collectors and sinners also sat together with Jesus and His disciples; for there were many, and they followed Him. 16 And when the scribes and Pharisees saw Him eating with the tax collectors and sinners, they said to His disciples, “How is it that He eats and drinks with tax collectors and sinners?”  17 When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”
*Jesus gives a reason for life beyond desperation and the day to day struggle.
*The chasm between rich and poor creates a natural enmity.  Enemies are created and established.  Jesus breaks down those enmities and restores Hope!
*Can bitter enemies come together in peace?  On Christmas Eve 1914, World War I, Scots, Belgians and French faced the German army.  Thousands lay dead and dying in 'no man's land.'  But on Christmas Eve, along the Western Front of the war, these bitter enemies laid down their weapons and celebrated the birth of Jesus together.  They toasted each other, they played football together, they sang hymns and worshipped God together.  And they worked together to bury their dead.  And in the morning, many of the men could no longer participate in shooting their enemies.
*Watch this trailer from the movie:  Joyeux Noel
God will do amazing things for us if we will turn our eyes and hearts to Him!
*The early church lived out the love of Jesus toward one another without regard to ethnicity or skin color.
Acts 2: 7-12   NKJV   7 Then they were all amazed and marveled, saying to one another, “Look, are not all these who speak Galileans? 8 And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? 9 Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, 10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, 11 Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” 12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”

Acts 2: 46, 47   NKJV  46 So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, 47 praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.

Acts 2: 44-45   44 Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, 45 and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.
*The Bible says that we will all sit down together at Jesus’s table in heaven.  There will be no discrimination in heaven.
*It means we must begin building friendships and relationships with people different than ourselves.
*What God originally planned to separate the peoples of the earth at the Tower of Babel, He now uses to bring them together in Jesus!
John 4: 34   NKJV   34 Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.”
*The life that is compelled to the call and gifting of God means you hunger to be involved, to be relevant, to make a difference that will truly transform the lives of others.  You can do it as a doctor, or as an engineer, or as an evangelist or missionary.  But do it!!
*Our land is being plundered and destroyed by sheep who have no shepherd.  And God looks around at His people, looking for one to cry out, “RESTORE!”
Isaiah 42:22   But this is a people robbed and plundered; All of them are snared in holes, And they are hidden in prison houses; They are for prey, and no one delivers; For plunder, and no one says, “Restore!”
