CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
2nd Corinthians 3: 17, 18  NKJV

Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

SERMON:
Breaking Free to Worship!

*God is doing some exciting things in our day:
• He is pouring out His Spirit.
• He is building His Church.
• He is preparing His Bride.
*He is calling believers in Jesus to be a part of one of the greatest
times of all of history.
*we must not accept the limitations of the past.
*we must be earnest in our desire for truth.
*we must desire to know the Lord more intimately.
*we must be especially responsive to the voice of the Lord.
*we must be willing to change.
*If the church is to become what it is to become, it must change.
*The Christian life is a life of change…
• From glory to glory.
• From faith to faith.
• Line upon line, precept upon precept.
• God is working His spirit into those who seek and obey Him!

• We are to increase more and more.
*God wants change in our expression of worship. He wants us
to come up to a more biblical expression of our worship of Him.
*Two great hindrances to change.
1. A love for tradition or the way we have always done it.  Lovers of tradition say, “We never did it that way before.”

2. A love of the status quo or loss of vision.  We want to be settlers rather than pioneers.
*Matthew 15: 1-6   NKJV  Jesus confronts the Pharisees on their own adherence to tradition.
*What do we do when our traditions say one thing but the Word of God says another?
1. If our tradition says that silent worship is reverent and pleasing to God…But the Word of God says sing, shout, dance and clap your hands, what do we do?
Psalm 95: 1-3 or Psalm 98: 4-6
2. If our tradition says that we must be very serious in the house of God and be careful not to get too excited, but the Word of God says to rejoice and make a joyful noise to the Lord, what do we do?
Psalm 100:1-3 or Psalm 9:1, 2 or Psalm 32:11
*Perhaps we need some understanding.   We are to sing praises to God with understanding.
Psalm 47:6-7
*God ordained expressions of worship:
Clapping:   Psalm 47:1
Lifting our Hands:   Psalm 63: 4, 5   Psalm 119: 47 & 48   Nehemiah 8:6
Genesis 14:21-23   Luke 24: 50-53  Jesus blessed His disciples.
• When we lift our hands, It is a prayer posture:  1st Timothy 2: 8
1st Kings 8: 22, 23
• When we lift our hands in prayer, we are reaching out to God for assistance.   Psalm 28: 2   Psalm 88: 9
• It is as the evening sacrifice:  Psalm 141:2
Shout our praises to God:  Psalm 35:27   Psalm 81:1   Psalm 132:9
• The voice of victory and deliverance
• The homage paid to a king as when Jesus rode into Jerusalem
Matthew 21:9
• Our Shouting in faith makes walls fall down:    Joshua 6: 20
• Our shouting is Symbolic of making a firm oath to the Lord:  II Chronicles 15:14,15   Revelation 7: 9, 10
Dancing is part of worship before our Lord:  Psalm 149:2-4  Psalm 30:11-12
*“What do you do when the Word of God says one thing but your tradition says another?”
*The answer is, “You change. You conform your life and experience to the Word of God.”
*God wants to take us from where we are to a place that He wills for us, AND will greatly bless our lives as we obey.
*Jesus calls us to say ‘Yes’ to God in all situations and obey Him only.

BENEDICTION:
16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
19 Do not quench the Spirit. 20 Do not despise prophecies. 21 Test all things; hold fast what is good. 22 Abstain from every form of evil.
23 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.  1st Thessalonians 5: 16-28   NKJV

Lord, make us more like you, to be people who seek to hear from you and to be obedient to your will in our lives.  In Jesus name, Amen!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 21: 28-32   NKJV

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”
They said to Him, “The first.”
Jesus said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward relent and believe him.

SERMON:
The Immeasurable Bond of God's Love!

*Proprioceptive, the bonds of relationship of individuals, bound together in an empathetic, or caring and trusting relationship.
*Schools teach you the world’s ways to help you succeed in life.  At graduation, you get a job and begin to build your life on the world’s paradigms:  Success and wealth and promotion.  Fitting into the culture.  We become machines: put in certain criterion and out comes the desired result.
*Truth is, we live lives that wither like the grass and blow away in the wind.  There is always someone else ready to step in and take our place.
*The world’s paradigms do not fulfill the major issues we face in life.
belonging | purpose | meaning
Do I belong?  What is my purpose in life? What is the meaning of life?
*Belonging, purpose and meaning.  All of these are met in our relationship to Jesus Christ and are not fulfilled anywhere else.  Not in Hinduism, or Buddhism, or Islam or in our respective cultures of Chinese and American.
*The recent race riots have shown us is that many people do not feel like they ‘belong,’ or receive respect and dignity in this world.
*Jesus invites us to come to Him in truth, where we find in Jesus Christ that place where we truly belong.  He calls us His children and He promises us He has set a place for you and for me at His table!
*The Psalmist cries out?  Are we here just to suffer and then die, as many today ask?
4 Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His,
And give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name.
11 You have turned for me my mourning into dancing;
You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with gladness,
12 To the end that my glory may sing praise to You and not be silent.
O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You forever.  Psalm 30
*Our purpose is to sing praise to the Lord.  That will seem very
unfulfilling to many, but to those of us who know the power and purpose of praise, we find ourselves in the middle of some truly great things, because He leads us in His paths of righteousness.  *When we praise God, we open ourselves up to infinite possibilities, eternal possibilities that only God can lead us in.  Our own praise of the Lord, God leads us into His realm, His Kingdom work which has eternal treasure.
*We have meaning because God created us!  Because God loves us and wants us to desire a relationship with Him, the God of all creation.
*Are we here just to suffer and then die, as many today ask?  No!  The book of Job answers that question completely and thoroughly and powerfully!  Job is left to wonder at the greatness of God!
*Are we here to simply prosper and then pass on our wealth to another?  We are here to pass on the treasures of God to our children, to our youth, to our friends and neighbors, we have been involved in an eternal work that has an eternal harvest in God’s kingdom.  We have passed on life and love and liberty to walk as Christ leads us!
*Only in Jesus do we find our true identity, our proprioceptive bonds.  Because only in Jesus do we find overwhelming love and acceptance and a reason for being.
*the Psalmist expresses his joy in the Lord:
       2 But his delight is in the law of the Lord,
And in His law he meditates day and night.  Psalm 1

3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me,
My glory and the One who lifts up my head.
4 I cried to the Lord with my voice,
And He heard me from His holy hill. Selah  Psalm 3

8 Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before my face.  Psalm 5
11 But let all those rejoice who put their trust in You;
Let them ever shout for joy, because You defend them;
Let those also who love Your name
Be joyful in You.  Psalm 5

17 I will praise the Lord according to His righteousness,
And will sing praise to the name of the Lord Most High.  Psalm 7

1  O Lord, our Lord,
How excellent is Your name in all the earth,
Who have set Your glory above the heavens!  Psalm 8

I will praise You, O Lord, with my whole heart;
I will tell of all Your marvelous works.
2 I will be glad and rejoice in You;
I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High.  Psalm 9

15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness;
I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.  Psalm 17

I will love You, O Lord, my strength.
2 The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer;
My God, my strength, in whom I will trust;
My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
3 I will call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised;
So shall I be saved from my enemies.  Psalm 18

The heavens declare the glory of God;
And the firmament shows His handiwork.
2 Day unto day utters speech,
And night unto night reveals knowledge.
3 There is no speech nor language
Where their voice is not heard.
4 Their line has gone out through all the earth,
And their words to the end of the world.  Psalm 19

The Lord is my shepherd;
I shall not want.
2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside the still waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He leads me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.  Psalm 23

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?  Psalm 27
4 One thing I have desired of the Lord,
That will I seek:
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
All the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord,
And to inquire in His temple.  Psalm 27

As the deer pants for the water brooks,
So pants my soul for You, O God.
2 My soul thirsts for God, for the living God.
When shall I come and appear before God?  Psalm 42
And on and on, the Psalmist writes...
*Even the Centurion at the foot of Jesus's cross:

54 So when the centurion and those with him, who were guarding Jesus, saw the earthquake and the things that had happened, they feared greatly, saying, “Truly this was the Son of God!”  Matthew 27
*Is this the cry of your own heart toward God?  Do you proclaim Him no matter what your circumstances?  Is the cry of your heart and life to shout His glory, to thirst for Him and His presence always?
*Who do you say He is??!!?  Peter answers that in John 6:
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know
that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”  John 6
*Where is your life’s treasure? Jesus asks us in Luke 12:
32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom. 33 Sell what you have and give alms; provide yourselves money bags which do not grow old, a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches nor moth destroys. 34 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  Luke 12
*We need to walk the talk, to say ‘Yes!’ to God!
*Eternity is found only in Christ Jesus!
*God wants us to be bound to Him in His compassion and empathy toward us so that we will trust Him fully!
*Are you spending time with Him in prayer and meditation on His Word?  Do you even pick up your Bibles through the week?  What is the treasure of your life?  Who do you say that Jesus is?
*Jesus calls us to say ‘Yes’ to God in all situations and obey Him only.

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:
Matthew 13: 44, 45  |  Matthew 22: 35-40

44 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and hid; and for joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.
45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, 46 who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.   Matthew 13: 44, 45  NKJV

35 Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, 36 “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matthew 22: 35-40   NKJV

SERMON:
The First & Greatest Commandment!

*We are in a new season of life with a new and different normal than just a year ago.  Freedoms and pleasures we enjoyed last year are different today.
*Purpose of gathering together as a church is to worship God together, to be taught, for fellowship and community, to be encouraged and equipped.
*John 13:34-35  NKJV - A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
*Faith is a relationship to be lived out, not a topic to be studied!
*Faith and love go hand in hand in Christ’s church.
*Trust and Belief is a present active participle faith that has to be lived out with shoe leather.  You cannot know how to walk it out unless you go to Him who knows!
*‘We love the church!’  It is God’s idea that God’s people be living together in community engaged in loving each other and reaching out into our communities with the Good News of Jesus!
*We are the church!
*Matthew 7: 12: “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.”  It is not a rule of reciprocity but a rule of responsibility!
*Elder Dew and the deacons are in discussion right now about the steps we need to take to reopen the church.  But we must not assume that the only issues we face are social distancing concerns and if we are to wear a mask or not.  We must understand that there are even greater issues we face as a church body.
*Every one of us can serve and build up this body in some way.
*Why do we continue to think this life is all there is?
*Like Moses, we must look to the reward!  To keep our eyes on eternity!
*Do you think the Bible, God’s Word is completely out of step with our current cultures around the world, and therefore is wrong?   “…What we know now is not what was known then.”
*Hebrews 13:8, 9   NKJV:  8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. 9 Do not be carried about with various and strange doctrines. For it is good that the heart be established by grace, not with foods which have not profited those who have been occupied with them.
*God is the same today as He was the day He created and placed Adam and Eve in the garden.  Mankind changes.  God never changes.
*The Bible is completely relevant today in our 21st century world just because of who its author is, God!  God’s Word brings peace in our own hearts and lives in the midst of chaos, forgiveness in the midst of betrayal, hope in a time of confusion and expresses God’s love for us through it all!
*If there is anything we as a congregation should concern ourselves with is our love for God.  God is moving us to a new place in our lives.  He wants to redefine in our lives to focus on what is most important, to set our eyes on the eternal.
*John 14:16   NKJV:  And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever—
*1st Thessalonians 5: 16-18   NKJV:  16 Rejoice always, 17 pray without ceasing, 18 in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
*“It is not great talents God blesses so much as great likeness to Jesus. A holy Christian is a powerful instrument in the hand of God.”
*The Love of God is expressed through us to others as we live in community.
*John 14:12   NKJV:  “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.
*It begins with prayer!! Ask God to work in your life to abandon a spirit of religious behavior, and replace it with His heart to love, to unconditionally love others and to serve them as Christ does.
*If we are going to reopen the church and begin fellowshipping together again, we must not assume that the only issues we face are social distancing concerns and if we are to wear a mask or not.  We must come back together spending time with our Lord personally in prayer and asking Him, ‘Lord, what would you have me do?  Set my eyes on your eternal things Lord!’
