CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Jeremiah 17: 7-10   NKJV

7 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

And whose hope is the Lord.

8 For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,

Which spreads out its roots by the river,

And will not fear when heat comes;

But its leaf will be green,

And will not be anxious in the year of drought,

Nor will cease from yielding fruit.

9 “The heart is deceitful above all things,

And desperately wicked;

Who can know it?

10 I, the Lord, search the heart,

I test the mind,

Even to give every man according to his ways,

According to the fruit of his doings.

SERMON:

Now What Do We do?

*We look around and see the world disintegrating all around us.
*Let this passage read from Jeremiah 17 be our rallying cry!

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,

And whose hope is the Lord.

*God makes it clear that we should never trust in our hearts!  Our hearts will always direct us to that which we want to do, that brings US pleasure.  God wants to change our hearts to be directed and led by Him alone!
*Our world is on a course toward chaos and anarchy.  Many are asking today, ‘will disaster strike?'  People wonder what should I do?  People ask, “When will it all happen?”
*In Matthew 24, Jesus led His disciples through all the amazing buildings in Jerusalem:

2 And Jesus said to them, “Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down.”  3 Now as He sat on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”  Matthew 24: 2-3   NKJV

*What will happen after the election?  Will there be greater chaos and anarchy?  But Jesus instead tells His disciples:

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. Matthew 24: 4   NKJV

 *The number one crisis we face is not destruction, or collapse, or disease.  It is deception!  It is being deceived by voices and false prophets, by false headlines that create in us great anxiety and fear.
*If you want to be disaster proof, then what is going to happen in November, is not nearly as important as what God wants to do inside of you. You need to understand the difference between preparation and panic.
*God always warns His people of dangers and disaster ahead.  God warned Pharaoh through Joseph of the coming famine and told him exactly what to do.
*Fear drives us to make drastic decisions.
*God is not surprised by any of this.  He told us these things would happen!
*Those who are obedient and listening for God’s voice are moved by His Spirit and are completely taken care of.  They will not be fearful or anxious in a crisis because they trust God alone.  They hear from God and set their lives by His voice.

29 “And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. 30 For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. 31 But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.  32 “Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.  Luke 12: 29-32   NKJV

*The greatest survival preparation in the world is having a right relationship with God!  God wants you to prepare, but not to panic.
*And perhaps it is like the Lord spoke to the prophet Isaiah in chapter 26:

20 Come, my people, enter your chambers,

And shut your doors behind you;

Hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment,

Until the indignation is past.

21 For behold, the Lord comes out of His place

To punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity;

The earth will also disclose her blood,

And will no more cover her slain.  Isaiah 26: 20, 21   NKJV

*Is God about to bring judgement on America and the world?
*You must trust God to give you special instructions.  But you have to seek them out for yourself before God!
Do not look or listen to anyone else except God!  Hear what the Lord said to the prophet in Isaiah 6:

11 For the Lord spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying:

12 “Do not say, ‘A conspiracy,’

Concerning all that this people call a conspiracy,

Nor be afraid of their threats, nor be troubled.

13 The Lord of hosts, Him you shall hallow;

Let Him be your fear,

And let Him be your dread.  Isaiah 6: 11-13   NKJV

*Press into God so that you will find a safe place and an emotional rest.

10 “Say to the righteous that it shall be well with them,

For they shall eat the fruit of their doings.

11 Woe to the wicked! It shall be ill with him,

For the reward of his hands shall be given him.  Isaiah 3: 10, 11   NKJV

*God is telling His people to enter into your homes until this tribulation passes over us.  What pleases God is when you separate yourself from the evil and perversity of the world.
*God made you promises, didn’t He?  His promises are true and unshakable for you.
*Satan shouts that heaven has shut it’s doors and windows and cannot be trusted to save you.
Do not listen to Satan!  Do not listen to the newscasters!  Do not listen to the prophets of doom!  God has everything in His hand.  Hear what God says to the prophet Jeremiah:

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11  NKJV

*Brothers and sisters, God's Word is certain! God made you that promise knowing everything!  God was aware of it when he promised that in His Word.  Remember Psalm 46:

46 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

3 Though its waters roar and be troubled,

Though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah

10 Be still, and know that I am God;

I will be exalted among the nations,

I will be exalted in the earth!

11 The Lord of hosts is with us;

The God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah Psalm 46: 1-3; 10, 11   NKJV

*I will trust him!
*Therefore, rest in the Lord, press into the Lord!  He will be a sanctuary to you!  He is our refuge!!
*God always warns His people of dangers and disaster ahead.  We need to be prepared!  And not just for ourselves but for our neighbors.
*Jesus, responding to a question from a lawyer tells us in Matthew 22:

37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’”  Matthew 22: 37-39   NKJV

*Draw near to God!  Press into Him!  Hear Him and follow His instructions!  If He tells you to prepare, then prepare.  Prepare for yourselves and prepare extra to give to your neighbors who have need.
*46 God is our refuge and strength,

A very present help in trouble.

2 Therefore we will not fear,

Even though the earth be removed,

And though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea;

Psalm 46: 1-3; 10, 11   NKJV

*This is a time for our faith to become real!  Trust Him.  Hear Him!

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Matthew 24: 4-14   NKJV

4 And Jesus answered and said to them: “Take heed that no one deceives you. 5 For many will come in My name, saying, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. 6 And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. 7 For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. 8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.

9 “Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and kill you, and you will be hated by all nations for My name’s sake. 10 And then many will be offended, will betray one another, and will hate one another. 11 Then many false prophets will rise up and deceive many. 12 And because lawlessness will abound, the love of many will grow cold. 13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved. 14 And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in all the world as a witness to all the nations, and then the end will come.

SERMON:

The Love of Christ and The End of Days!

*Landmarks and signs help us find our way.
*Jesus is doing the same for us in Matthew 24 by telling us what to watch for in the last days.
*This world is not our home!
        4 “Lord, make me to know my end,

And what is the measure of my days,

That I may know how frail I am.

5 Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths,

And my age is as nothing before You;

Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah  Psalm 39: 4-5   NKJV

and...

“All flesh is as grass,

And all the glory of man as the flower of the grass.

The grass withers,

And its flower falls away,

25 But the word of the Lord endures forever.”

Now this is the word which by the gospel was preached to you.  1st Peter 1: 24, 25   NKJV

Even Jesus tells us:
       24 Then Jesus said to His disciples, “If anyone desires to come after Me,         let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 25 For                   whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for         My sake will find it. 26 For what profit is it to a man if he gains the                 whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in                     exchange for his soul?  Matthew 16: 24-26   NKJV
*each of us who live on this blue dot of a planet only have so many years to live on it.
*But Christ…
*We are headed into some very rough waters ahead.
*Scripture makes clear that in the last days,

21 For then there will be great tribulation, such as has not been since the beginning of the world until this time, no, nor ever shall be.  Matthew 24: 21   NKJV

*Tensions around the world are getting hotter and more edgy by the day.   These prophecies are almost daily being revealed in today’s world headlines.

15 For this we say to you by the word of the Lord, that we who are alive and remain until the coming of the Lord will by no means precede those who are asleep. 16 For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore comfort one another with these words.  1st Thessalonians 4: 15-18   NKJV

*Those of us who proclaim Christ as our savior are to be ready.
*Brothers and sisters, this is a message of great light and hope.  Our Savior is returning in all glory!
*Do you believe you are going to heaven?  What is it that makes you believe this?  Is it because you made a profession of faith at an earlier time in your life?  Is it because you were baptized?
*There are three simple steps to becoming a believing child of God.  Today, Jesus is calling everyone of us to respond.
A…  As in Admit.  Admit your sins to Jesus.  Have you been doing things you know you shouldn’t be doing?  Admit to doing them and confess it to Jesus!  Have you been proud and arrogant?  Have you been putting others down?  Admit and confess it to Jesus!  Paul tells us in Ephesians 1:

7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace  Ephesians 1: 7   NKJV

B… As in Believe.  Believe in Jesus.  Believe He is who He says He is.  Believe and make that belief the center of your life.  Jesus tells us in John 3: 16, and 17:

16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. 17 For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.  John 3: 16, 17   NKJV

*By simply believing in Jesus, He begins a transformation in your life that causes you to see and live differently.  He changes you from the inside out and gives joy and peace and a new heart.
*C…  As in Confess.  Confess to others that Jesus is your Lord and Savior.  Jesus is King of Kings, Lord of Lords!  Jesus is your way, your truth and your life.  He is your creator and your redeemer.  He is your treasure and strength!  And then walk out your faith in all areas of your life.  Let Jesus’s life shine through you to others of His light and salvation.
*This world is not our home!!  Our lives here are but a vapor, a wisp.
        55 “Oh Death, where is your sting?

O Hades, where is your victory?”

56 The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.  1st Corinthians 15: 55-58   NKJV

*God has something infinitely better for you!  Something you cannot imagine!
*The course of your life could change today based on a single decision you’ll make.  Jesus stands at the door and knocks.
*If you do not have this hope and expectation in your life, then it is time, today, that you ask God to show you His truth, and that your Admit your sin, Believe in Jesus, and Confess Him to others as your Lord!

13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, 14 in whom we have redemption [d]through His blood, the forgiveness of sins.  Colossians 1: 13, 14   NKJV

*Matthew 24: “13 But he who endures to the end shall be saved.”

CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Mark 12: 41-44  |  Matthew 19: 16-22

Now Jesus sat opposite the treasury and saw how the people put money into the treasury. And many who were rich put in much. Then one poor widow came and threw in two mites, which make a quadrans. So He called His disciples to Himself and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all those who have given to the treasury; for they all put in out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty put in all that she had, her whole livelihood.”  Mark 12: 41-44   NKJV

 Now behold, one came and said to Him, “Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?”  So He said to him, “Why do you call Me good? No one is good but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

 He said to Him, “Which ones?”  Jesus said, “‘You shall not murder,’ ‘You shall not commit adultery,’ ‘You shall not steal,’ ‘You shall not bear false witness,’  ‘Honor your father and your mother,’ and, ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ ”  The young man said to Him, “All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?”

 Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.  Matthew 19: 16-22   NKJV

SERMON:
Red Letter Words of Jesus that Really Convict Us!

*If Jesus walked in to our church building, and sat down amongst us, would His Words commend us, as in, “Well done, thou good and faithful servant.”  Or instead, would He say:

“I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I could wish you were cold or hot. 16 So then, because you are lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will vomit you out of My mouth. 17 Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing’—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked—"  Revelation 3: 15-17   NKJV

*If our attitudes and lives reflect "I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing, we are ‘wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked’ because we do not spend our lives seeking after Him who gives us life.
*‘Wretched’ as “deeply afflicted, dejected, or distressed in body or mind.”  People are distressed about the pandemic and we protect ourselves.  People are distressed about the lawlessness and destruction of public and private properties by anarchists and protesters, and we wonder if that is coming to our own community.
*Our misery confines us to our homes and it breeds in us further discontent and contempt for others.  We were created to live social lives!  By staying at home, we close ourselves off from friendships and fellowship.
*Our absence of relationship causes us to think we are alone.  We are cut off!  We feel cut off!  We do not even pursue God with our whole hearts.
*We are poor and blind and naked.  We count our riches by our worldly wealth.
*Our blindness is seen by what we refuse to see because our hearts have grown cold and indifferent toward others and to Christ!
*Our nakedness is revealed by our walking in shame for those things we know we should be doing, but are not.  It is revealed in our hypocrisies and unloving attitudes.
*We do not live the lives Jesus wants to lead us in.
*Jesus’s Words to the Laodicean church do not end with the rebuke.  Jesus, turns their eyes to where their true wealth is found.  He calls them to repent and find the treasure that He offers.

18 I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent. 20 Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.  Revelation 3: 18-20   NKJV

 *Those wonderful words: “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten.

Therefore be zealous and repent.”

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.  Romans 8: 28, 29   NKJV

*We can only see the things that are right in front of us right now.  But Jesus is looking at the eternal picture of your life.  He is always going to perfect things in our lives that we will walk in righteousness before Him!
*No one can spoil us like God does!
*
“If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him…”  You have to open the door of your life to HIM!
*The poor widow gave it all!  Out of her poverty, she put in everything she had.  The contrast between the widow and the rich young man is both obvious and startling!  The rich young man could not even part with a portion but valued his worldly possessions as greater than anything that Jesus could offer.
*If there is anything in our lives that we hang onto, value more than Christ Jesus, we are not fit for His kingdom.  He tells us so Himself.
*As Jesus is about to face the cross, there one account of two events that powerfully show us what it means to give it all for Him!

3 And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head. 4 But there were some who were indignant among themselves, and said, “Why was this fragrant oil wasted? 5 For it might have been sold for more than three hundred denarii and given to the poor.” And they criticized her sharply.

6 But Jesus said, “Let her alone. Why do you trouble her? She has done a good work for Me. 7 For you have the poor with you always, and whenever you wish you may do them good; but Me you do not have always. 8 She has done what she could. She has come beforehand to anoint My body for burial. 9 Assuredly, I say to you, wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.”

 10 Then Judas Iscariot, one of the twelve, went to the chief priests to betray Him to them. 11 And when they heard it, they were glad, and promised to give him money. So he sought how he might conveniently betray Him.  Mark 14: 3 – 11   NKJV

*Two events told in one story, powerfully tell us of a woman who is willing to give it all, and a man who is trying to get whatever he can.  She gave the total of that flask, all of the Spiknard, and then broke the flask as well.  There was nothing remaining for her.  Gospel of Mark actually sets a price on that alabaster flask: 300 denari or a year’s wages for most people in that time.
*Gospel writers tell of Judas’s betrayal of Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.  To the priests who paid that sum, it was the price of contempt.  The priests were willing to pay almost nothing for Jesus.

*Judas had come to a point in his life where he had lived for three years walking with Jesus, listening to Jesus’ teachings and witnessing His miracles, completely surrounded by truth!  But he had never applied it to his life.
*God’s view is very different from mans.  To God, who owns the cattle on a thousand hills, we cannot outgive God!  But we can give our lives to Him!
*It begins by saying ‘Yes’ to God in everything!

“Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices

    as much as in obeying the Lord?

To obey is better than sacrifice,

    and to heed is better than the fat of rams.

23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,

    and arrogance like the evil of idolatry.

1 Samuel 15: 22, 23   NKJV

*Martin Luther, the Protestant Reformer said:  “A religion that does nothing, that saves nothing, that gives nothing, that costs nothing, that suffers nothing, is worth nothing!
*Today is your day!  I have brought to you a truth of God that is found in story after story, life after life throughout the Bible of men and women who lived their lives with truth all around them.  Many never learned to apply that truth to their own lives.  They refused thinking they knew better.
And then there were those who grabbed hold of Jesus as their way, their truth and their life.  And they found the true eternal riches that He promises to give.
