CONGREGATIONAL PRAYER

SCRIPTURE READING:

Romans 1: 6-32   NKJV

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek. 17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”  18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness, 19 because what may be known of God is manifest in them, for God has shown it to them. 20 For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even His eternal power and Godhead, so that they are without excuse, 21 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.  24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, 25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.  26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. 27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.  28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; 29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; 32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.  Romans 1: 6-32   NKJV

SERMON:

Godly Families and the Perversity of Our Times

*Times don’t change.  Mankind still lives the same way today that we did since the very beginning of time when Eve plucked that fruit from the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil.  We may think we are more sophisticated, more intelligent, but our hearts are still given to evil.
*the Bible continues to be extremely relevant today in this 21st century world.  It addresses the sin and the hatred for God in this world.
*God doesn’t change!
*What God loves.  God has always loved the people of His creation, but there is a caveat.  What does God look for in the people of His creation?

8 But Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord.  9 This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God.  Genesis 6: 8, 9   NKJV

*What does God want in His children?

5 Therefore be imitators of God as dear children. 2 And walk in love, as Christ also has loved us and given Himself for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet-smelling aroma.  Ephesians 5: 1, 2   NKJV

God loves those who love Him and seek to walk like Him in their lives!

*What does God hate?

5 Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. 6 And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart.  Genesis 6: 5, 6   NKJV

*The prophet Isaiah wrote this 2,700 years ago:

20 Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil;

Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness;

Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

       Isaiah 5: 20 NKJV

*You choose!  Walk in the light and the ways of God, or walk in evil and darkness.  One comes with a blessing, one comes with a curse and death.

17 For in it the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith; as it is written, “The just shall live by faith.”  18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who suppress the truth in unrighteousness,  Romans 1: 17, 18   NKJV

*God still hates sin today!
Amen.  Romans 1: 22-25   NKJV

*We fashion gods after our own likeness and desires.  We want gods who will accept our ways, our pleasures and desires.  God our creator says if we will not follow Him, He will give us up to uncleanness, to the lusts of our hearts...

Romans 1: 26-27    NKJV

*God’s ways are not our ways!  Our ways are not God’s ways!   His ways are infinitely greater than ours!   God is not going to accept or agree with our ways.  Not now, not ever!
*God created us in His own image.  God doesn’t make mistakes!!  He created us male and female for us to fulfill the purpose He directs in us.
*God’s creation is completely ordered for man and woman to be together and to fulfill that which God created for them.  God’s design is for each to compliment the other, to love the other and live out the purpose God designed for us in relationship.
*The Christian marriage is a microcosm of the church and is to reflect Christ just as His church is supposed to.
22 Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. 23 For the                  husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He          is the Savior of the body. 24 Therefore, just as the church is subject to              Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in everything.  25                  Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave        Himself for her, 26 that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the                  washing of water by the word, 27 that He might present her to Himself a          glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that
she should be holy and without blemish. 28 So husbands ought to love            their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.        29 For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it,            just as the Lord does the church. 30 For we are members of His body, of          His flesh and of His bones. 31 “For this reason a man shall leave his               father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one       flesh.”  Ephesians 5:  22-31   NKJV
*In this ‘me’ world where everything is tailored to what I want, this teaching will seem particularly abhorrent to us.  Don’t tell me how to live!!  We want to do what we want to do!
*As we look at the truths and ways of God, and bring our lives into alignment with Him, we find blessings that greatly enrich us.
*A Christ centered marriage shows us what it means to give our all to the other.
*Marriage is best defined: “each for the other, and both for Christ!”
*The sin in a person’s life separates them from the love of Christ.
*This is only realized through repentance.  Repentance is turning away from your own thinking that your way is better than Gods, and fully agreeing with God, turning your life to God’s ways!
*All sinful choices we make in our lives.  Paul continues:

29 being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, 30 backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful;  32 who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.  Romans 1: 29-32   NKJV

*Maimonides, the 12th century Jewish philosopher who became one of the most prolific and influential Torah scholars, said this:  "Truth does not become more true by virtue of the fact that the entire world agrees with it, nor less so even if the whole world disagrees with it."
*God will never accept mans ways even if ALL mankind demands in unison their way is better!  Mankind will never understand God’s ways, or His justice or His sovereignty.  But God is our creator and redeemer.  His ways are final and eternal.
*As believers in Jesus Christ should want to know what God’s position is on matters in this world.  We should not only want to know, we should be standing on these truths, even with our lives.
*God has given men and women choice, the ability to decide for themselves what they wish to happen.  King Solomon wrote in Proverbs 16:

25 There is a way that seems right to a man,

But its end is the way of death.  Proverbs 16: 25   NKJV

*But God calls His people to righteousness born in Christ Jesus!  In Him is where we will find truth and the relationship to be able to walk it out in our lives:

For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness? 15 And what accord has Christ with Belial?  2nd Corinthians 6: 14, 15   NKJV

17 Therefore

“Come out from among them

And be separate, says the Lord.

Do not touch what is unclean,

And I will receive you.”

18 “I will be a Father to you,

And you shall be My sons and daughters,

Says the Lord Almighty.”  2nd Corinthians 6: 17, 18   NKJV

*Consider the BIG questions of your life!  The perversity of this world will overtake us unless we remain vigilante to the truth of God.  We have to be in His Word, the Bible, to know the difference.
*This is a time for our faith to become real!  Trust Him.  Hear Him!
